Macao LRT starts charging from 1st Jan 2020 and electronic payment introduced for ticket purchase

The Macao LRT service will begin charging from 1st Jan 2020 officially. Fares of the general single journey tickets range from MOP $6 to $10. Eligible person who purchases concessionary single journey ticket or LRT card can enjoy a fare discount. Holders of Senior LRT card or Disabled LRT card as well as children with body height below 1 metre are eligible for free travel.

In addition, Macao LRT has also introduced electronic payment platforms such as "BoC Pay" and "Macau Pass" for citizens and tourists to purchase LRT tickets more conveniently. This means that apart from the cash payment, citizens and tourists can also purchase tickets by using the corresponding mobile apps, Alipay, WeChat Pay, Quick Pass from UnionPay, contactless bank card payment and other payment methods in order to facilitate a more friendly travel experience.

From the date of 28th Dec 2019, Macao Resident Identity Card holders aged 65 years old or above and holders of Disability Assessment Registration Card issued by the Social Welfare Bureau can apply for the concessionary LRT cards at any LRT stations.
