Macao Light Rapid Transit Corporation, Limited (hereinafter “MLM”) will, on a trial basis, relax restrictions on the transport of bicycles in stations and carriages on Saturdays and Sundays, from May 9 to August 30, in response to the public’s travel needs, and following a comprehensive assessment of passenger flow and travel patterns, while also seeking to ensure a balanced use of carriage space.
The new rule applies to folding or single-frame bicycles and, during the trial period, before entering the stations of the Macau LRT, they must be folded or have one wheel removed, with the length not exceeding 180 cm. Bicycles whose original length does not exceed 130 cm do not need to be folded or have wheels removed. From Monday to Friday, the original restrictions for transporting objects remain in force, meaning that items may not be carried on the LRT if the sum of their length, width, and height exceeds 170 cm, or if the length of any side is greater than 130 cm.
MLM reminds passengers with bicycles to follow the instructions of station staff, use the second or fourth carriages of the LRT, and place their bicycles properly so as not to obstruct the passage of other passengers. If the carriage is crowded, it is recommended to wait for the next train in order to maintain a safe and orderly travel environment. MLM will monitor the impact of this measure on the carriages and passenger flow, reviewing and optimizing the regulations based on the experience gained during this trial period. The aim is to encourage green mobility, facilitate the use of the LRT by different groups of passengers, and at the same time preserve carriage order and passenger comfort.
