New access gates with diversified electronic payment functions are being gradually installed across all LRT stations.
To facilitate travel on the Macau LRT, the Transport Bureau (DSAT) and the Public Works Bureau (DSOP) have been coordinating interdepartmental efforts to promote the replacement of station access gates with equipment offering diversified electronic payment functions by MLM. The first phase of the works began in September at Hospital Union Station and Lotus Station on the Hengqin Line, and is being gradually extended to other stations, with the goal of completing the replacement across the entire network and starting trial operations by the end of the year. In the future, all LRT stations will operate with both new and old access gates simultaneously.
In addition to continuing to accept the Macau Pass card, the new access gates will also be compatible with various electronic payment methods. Residents and tourists will thus be able to use several QR payment codes, including local e-wallets covered by ‘Simple Pay +’, UnionPay QR, as well as transport codes from Alipay and WeChat, or the ‘China T-union’ card, to enter Macau LRT stations.
The DSAT has already requested the Macau Light Rapid Transit Corporation (MLRT) to assign additional staff during the replacement period to assist passengers and ensure orderly circulation within the stations. At the same time, in collaboration with the DSOP and MLM, it will continue to follow closely the progress of the equipment replacement, adjusting details as needed and announcing in due course the arrangements for the experimental operation of the new access gates.
